Dancing to a New Beat
The idea of getting a Code Jukebox has been the subject of much debate this week – variety has been the hot topic and making sure we’re not solely a ‘Disco Agency’ as has been much contested by myself and Jamie!
This got me thinking about DJing digitally. I heard an interesting quote from DJ Frankie Bones (an American techno DJ) this week about Dj’s DJing digitally, i.e. using MP3’s and tools to manipulate music on the decks. It was of particular interest to me as I am a digital DJ and use the said tools in question. Frankie’s point (well made I must say) was that you should earn your stripes so to speak and own at least 3000 pieces of vinyl before you start DJing ‘digitally’! Fair point? Has digital music spoiled the industry? Is it a saturated market which is diluted with rubbish tunes or has it simply opened up a whole new window of opportunity?
